Textiles Overview:
Beginner Knitting Each student will make a seamless mobius cowl on
circular needles using a stitch pattern suitable to their skill level.
Stitch patterns will vary from garter stitch, to ribbing, basket-weave
and cables.
Advanced Knitting Students begin to explore different ways to increase and decrease and will use these skills to make socks and slippers with shaped heel and/or lace shawlettes.

Machine Knitting This course is designed for the novice machine
knitter. In the first day we cover casting-on, stockinette stitch and faux-ribbing
as well as get comfortable with the knitting machines and our tools. Throughout the week we will cover increasing, decreasing, drop-stitch and various other stitch designs using our
transfer tools, as well as joining fabrics on the machine. During the independent portion of the course (last two weeks) students will have to opportunity to create patterns using both the electronic and punch-card machines. Troubleshooting will also be thoroughly discussed.
Weaving This course is designed for the novice weaver.
Throughout the week students will learn how to prepare a warp, dress the
loom and weave various patterns
using a 4-shaft table loom. Students will create a sample scarf or belt using
various woven structures as well as have the opportunity to
design and weave a second scarf or shawl. Various finishing techniques
will be demonstrated. Students will be able to read pattern drafts by the end of this course.
Spinning This course covered the basics of spinning. Components of the workshop included; Overview of different fibres that included different uses and qualities, cleaning and preparation of wool, carding and blending of wool, introduction to a spinning wheel and related tools, basic spinning techniques, regular and Navajo plying, yarn care, overview of different yarn uses.
